My mom will be so proud of me. No, not because I’m actually posting on my blog. (Although, that is kind of a feat.) No, it is much more noteworthy than that. Today, I bought my very first bottle of Rubber Cement.
I’m sure most of you have absolutely no idea why that would be a momentous occasion. Let me give you a little background. My Mom is the queen of school projects. As a kid, she helped me do everything from learning about women in business to solving problems of the future to conducting science projects where I played music to plants. And, each of those projects had an accompanying display of some sort. And, that’s where the rubber cement came in. Rubber cement is the adhesive of choice for completing any sort of display. I mean, how cool is rubber cement? It looks like snot (we often called it rubber snot-ment), it rolls into awesome rubber balls when you rub it off, and it gives you a little bit of a buzz from the smell. (Interesting note: You have to be over 18 to even buy it now. I got carded today when I purchased said bottle of rubber cement. Yeah, I live on the edge.)
My days of completing my own school projects are long gone. But, fortunately (*sarcasm*) my children are just beginning the school project phase. Enter Emily and her desire to do a science fair project. We have spent the last two days planning, conducting, analyzing and organizing her awesome science fair project. And, today, it was time to put together the masterpiece of a display. I pulled out my brand spanking new bottle of Rubber Cement, and we were good to go. 3 hours and 1 bottle of rubber cement later, we had finished. It is a work of art, and Emily is beside herself with pride.
So, it has begun. One project down. Now, it’s time to move on to the Solar System model that Robbie has due next week . . . but only after I make a trip to the store to pick up another bottle of Rubber Cement. 🙂
