You may have heard, but back in early February, Texas was slammed with some major winter weather . . . just in time for the Superbowl. We had a great time watching all the ESPN guys freezing in Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth! Let me walk you through our week.
WARNING: This is a long post. It was a long week. Deal with it.
DAY ONE – Tuesday, February 1st
3 days after the beautiful weather at Adam’s birthday party, we woke up to several inches of ice and snow . . . and no school. Can we say snow day?!? The kids were super excited, and Jon even got to stay home because the roads weren’t safe. It wasn’t good snowman/snowball/sledding snow, but it was great hot chocolate/sit by the fire snow! And yes, Robbie is shoveling the driveway with a garden hoe! We gotta use what we got!
DAY TWO – Wednesday, February 2nd
Still no school. Jon braved the roads and went to work, but we stayed here. The excitement of the snow is wearing off a little bit, but the novelty of a school-free day isn’t! We hung out, drank more hot chocolate, and chilled. That night, Jon and I braved the roads to go to Sam’s Club – ya know, so we wouldn’t starve! I thought I was going to permanently damage my hand because I was gripping the door handle so tightly. There were cars all over the freeway sliding and spinning wheels trying to go up even the smallest hills. It was scary! Thankfully we were safe . . . and we didn’t starve!
DAY THREE – Thursday, February 3rd
STILL no school. Now, the cabin fever is starting to set in . . . after 3 DAYS! Yeah, it’s probably good we live in TEXAS where it snows about once a year. We may not survive anywhere else! Out of sheer self-preservation, we pulled out a bunch of blankets, chairs, duct tape & clothespins and built a giant blanket tent in the gameroom. We had some yummy s’mores popcorn and watched a movie.
DAY FOUR – Friday, February 4th
You’ve got to be kidding me? MORE snow, and still NO SCHOOL? I think my kids might have rioted out of sheer boredom, but thankfully the new snow was good sledding snow. We grabbed our pool tubes and tromped through the snow to the park. It had been so cold that week that the pond froze! The kids had a great time sledding . . . until all the pool tubes popped! 🙂
DAY FIVE – Saturday, February 5th
Hallelujah! The roads are clear enough to drive! I think I bolted out of the door at light speed that morning! We loaded up the kids and headed to Arlington. Only one of my brothers would own a snowmobile (albeit, not a pretty one) in Texas! We hooked up the tube for the sea doos, and the kids had a blast!
After that week, I have seriously begun to reconsider my desire to live anywhere with snow. It’s super fun . . . for a day. I’m not sure I’d want to deal with it all the time!
