The kids are working on homework this afternoon. It is Emily’s turn on the computer to play math games. Suddenly, she runs into the kitchen, and she’s excited. No, that’s too mild – she’s bouncing up and down in pure joy. In a breathless rush of words, she says,
“Mom, I was doing math, and I accidentally closed the window, so I had to restart it, so I clicked the Internet Explorer button, and I typed in “multiplication.com”, but it wasn’t the right one, and COME LOOK!”
I’m a little nervous now as to what exactly she’s found, so I follow her into the office with some trepidation. I take a look at the computer screen, and see she went to “mulitplacation.com” instead. But, that’s not what made her excited. At the bottom of the screen, Emily points excitedly to a beautiful, flashing box. It’s a magical box because it informs her that she is the 1,000,000 visitor, and she’s won $1000 gift card.
Poor Em. She was crushed when her mean mom had to tell her that it wasn’t real, that she would have to sign up for no less than 13 different things to maybe get that $1,000. “But, Mom, that’s not fair!” I hear ya, kid. But, it did make me smile . . . just a little bit. 🙂
