Do you remember how I said that our schedule was about to get busy? That might have been an understatement. Here’s a quick recap of the madness that was the month of May.
1. LUAU! My Mom graduated with her Master’s degree in social work earlier this month. Yay! And, what better way to celebrate than to throw a monstrous party? We sent out invitations, planned, talked, worried, talked some more and then prayed that it would all come together. And, despite the torrential rain hours before the party, it was fabulous. And I’m talking full buffet with pulled pork sandwiches, veggies, spring rolls, meatballs and desserts fabulous. I’m talking a custom built tiki hut serving yummy slushes with umbrellas fabulous. I’m talking white lights, tables with cute centerpieces, tiki torches, lanterns, tents and a beach scene fabulous. I’m talking hula dancers, a fire dancer and an entire candy table fabulous. The bad news? It was so fabulous I didn’t take one picture! 😦 Before the party, I did take a pic of what the centerpieces were going to look like. So, you’ll have to be content with that.
2. School parties. I have spent more time at the school with the kids in the last two weeks than I have all year. There have been Luau Days and Crazy Olympics and field trips and special tea parties (which I forgot because I was so swamped with other stuff 😦 ) and awards ceremonies and ice cream parties and Brainiac bashes and ultimate game days. I don’t think my kids have done anything remotely productive at school this whole month. But, I’m sure they’ve had fun! This week, we get to spend 3 separate mornings at the school watching awards ceremonies! Here’s a pic of Adam’s Kindergarten program. Yup, it’s “Where’s Waldo” but with a cuter, shorter kindergarten kid.
And for posterity’s sake, here’s what Kelsey looks like at most of the school events we attend. Yes, I take her out in public like that on days other than Halloween. Yes, people stare. Yes, most people think it’s really cute. Honestly, it’s not worth the fight. She also sleeps in princess dress ups almost every night. Again, not worth the fight.
3. Swimming! It’s officially warm enough to swim without getting hypothermia. My kids are beyond excited. And, I’m excited because this is the first year that the kids are all proficient enough that they can swim by themselves. I can actually sit by the side of the pool and work on making my legs look less blindingly white.
4. Serving. We have spent an abnormal amount of time helping people out. Whether it’s watching kids, or inviting people over for FHE, or helping paint, or helping pack, or listening, we have been busy. Normally, when that happens I get pretty stressed out. This time, though, I have really enjoyed it. Maybe, I’m finally figuring things out!
We’re looking forward to summer here. Not that it’s going to slow down much, but at least I won’t have to get up at 6:30 each morning, right? Only 3 more days to go . . .
